The Trafficking Survivor Equity Coalition (TSEC) brings survivor-informed and anti-trafficking field informed policy recommendations to educate lawmakers on how to effectively prevent trafficking, protect trafficking survivors through equitable and inclusive services, and prosecute traffickers. TSEC supports a holistic approach to serving human trafficking survivors in the United States.

Latest Position Paper from Safe House Project

TVPRA - HR 6552

On July 26th 2022 The House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed critical anti-trafficking legislation authored by Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) together with Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA) in a strong bipartisan vote of 401-20.

The Frederick Douglass Trafficking Victims Prevention & Protection Reauthorization Act of 2022 was introduced on February 8, 2022 by Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Congresswoman Karen Bass (D-CA) to reauthorize $1B in funding over the next 5 years to support domestic and international trafficking initiatives.

2022 TIP Report

The United States Department of State released the 2022 Trafficking in Persons Report. This report is an integral part of understanding the state of anti-human trafficking work, both domestically and internationally. Safe House Project was privileged to contribute information on the incredible work being done in the U.S., and make recommendations for continued improvement in the prevention of trafficking, protection of victims and survivors, and prosecution of traffickers and buyers.

American Law Institute

After pushback from the coalition and other stakeholders, ALI reversed a decision last week that would have amended the model penal code to state that those who purchase children for commercial sex purposes are immune from state trafficking charges and will not be listed on the sex offender registry.

Lived Experience Voices

Survivor Leader, Alia Dewees, is launching a survivor only LinkedIn group to create a space where lived experience experts can dialogue on topics that directly impact the protection of trafficking survivors, prosecution of traffickers and buyers, and prevention of trafficking.

  • Create sustainable solutions that connect service providers to improved outcomes for trafficking survivors

  • Restore agency to survivor through restorative care and whole-person solutions

  • Educate on how to advocate for anti-trafficking initiatives

  • Identify and highlight systemic issues that disproportionately impact marginalized populations
